WATCH | AMARNATH YATRA PILGRIMS JUMP OFF MOVING BUS AFTER BRAKES FAIL; 10 INJURED

The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police averted a major mishap after a bus carrying pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra lost control on National Highway 44 in Ramban district on Tuesday (Jul 3).

The bus on National Highway 44, which was moving from Amarnath to Hoshiarpur, reportedly suffered a brake failure. The pilgrims on board were all from Punjab.

The bus, carrying 40 pilgrims, travelling back to Hoshiarpur, Punjab, couldn't stop due to the malfunction near Nachlana, Ramban district.

According to a video making rounds on social media, many pilgrims tried to escape the moving bus.

Army’s Quick Reaction Teams reached the scene and provided medical assistance and first aid to all the injured persons, the officials added.

The dramatic footage shows the terrifying scene, passengers leaping from the moving bus as security forces raced alongside, desperately trying to prevent it from plummeting into the gorge.

Notably, earlier in the month of May, 22 people died and at least 50 were injured after a bus fell into a gorge in Jammu's Akhnoor. The bus was carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, had over 80 passengers on board.
